Looking for an Experienced Structural Design Engineer or Project Manager

After experiencing years of unrelenting demand, we are looking to grow from a sole practice into a small team. We have an immediate need for an experienced structural design engineer or project manager with the following minimum qualifications (more experienced engineers are encouraged to apply) to join our small, casual office in SoDo on a full-time or part-time basis:

  • A bachelors or masters degree in civil, structural, or architectural engineering from a university in the United States.
  • A minimum of five years of recent experience in the structural design of buildings, including both gravity and lateral systems in the United States.
  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in the structural design of single-family residential buildings in a major metropolitan area in Washington State or California (Seattle Metro Area preferred).
  • A P.E. license in Washington State (S.E. preferred). Additional licenses in other states would be a plus.
  • Proficiency drafting in AutoCAD (you will do all of your own drafting and drawing creation).
  • Ability to report regularly to our physical office.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access tight, confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Experience managing other engineers, or desire to manage others in the future is a plus but not required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated engineer who desires autonomy, responsibility and the flexibility to complete their work as they see fit. You will be as far from a cog in the machine as it gets; you will ultimately be expected to manage and complete entire (small) projects from start to finish, including the preparation of proposals, attending the initial site investigation or client meeting, the preparation of structural calculations and creation of all structural drawings, collaboration with project stakeholders, permitting support and response to plan review comments, and very importantly support the projects with RFI responses, site visits and design changes during construction. You will be required to act as Engineer-of-Record on your projects and stamp the engineering documents that you prepare, or that are prepared under your direct supervision. (We will provide quality control reviews of your work where appropriate).

What We Offer in Return for A Full-Time Employee (A custom compensation package can be arranged for a part-time employee)

  • Excellent growth opportunity in terms of professional experience and within the firm.
  • Unique, potentially lucrative performanced-based compensation structure consisting of a base salary and bonuses.
  • Two weeks of PTO (includes jurisdictionally-mandated paid sick & safe time off)
  • 10 floating holidays
  • Very flexible policy on unpaid time off
  • Either work in-office full-time or hybrid of in-office and remote work (you must provide your own office space and set-up for remote work).
  • Company pays for professional development opportunities such as seminars and courses.
  • SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with 3% company match (when eligible under IRS rules).
  • Monthly health care stipend (Currently being a sole practice, we do not offer group health insurance at this time).
